About[]
Scheduled Parts Replacement (SPR) is the care and servicing by personnel for the intended purpose of replacing parts for maintaining equipment in a satisfactory operating condition on a routine, systematic scheduled PM inspection; detection; and correction of incipient failures either before they occur or before they develop into major defects. These parts and supplies maintained in clinical engineering will be classified as repair parts inventory, except for parts ordered for immediate use and common stock hardware items such as nuts, bolts, batteries, washers, pipe fittings, cotter pins, and wire.
Part Levels[]
Shop managers in order to avoid high value inventories and minimize losses resulting from obsolete repair parts or accidental loss should limit the on-hand quantity of these items place on bench stock. It is recommended that managers should consider a number of factors when determining what parts and quantities to keep on parts inventory such as..
- Critical equipment
- Cost of downtime
- Number of on-hand units
- Consumption rate
- Pipeline time
- Parts Cost and Availability
- Age of the equipment
- Shelf life
- Availability of 3rd party distributors
