Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy is the non-invasive treatment of kidney stones (urinary calculosis) and biliary calculi (stones in the gallbladder or in the liver). A lithotriptor are medical devices inserted via the bladder to acoustic shock wave or break up stones so the patient can pass or urinate them out of the body on their own. These devices typically consist of a shock-wave generator, an examination/treatment table, an imaging system, and a control console. Some older units utilize a water bath instead of an examination/treatment table.
