About[]
A portable doppler monitor is a hand-held ultrasound transducer used to detect the heart beat of a fetus for prenatal care or blood flow in an artery. It uses the Doppler effect to provide an audible simulation or sounds of the heart beat. Some models also display the heart rate in beats per minute. Use of this monitor is sometimes known as Doppler auscultation (Auscultation is the technical term for listening to the internal sounds of the body, usually using a stethoscope; based on the Latin verb auscultare "to listen". Auscultation is performed for the purposes of examining the circulatory system and respiratory system (heart sounds and breath sounds), as well as the gastrointestinal system (bowel sounds).
