An Equipment Control Number (ECN) tag

The Equipment Control Number (ECN) (also known as index number or equipment tag number) is an alpha-numeric control number used as an equipment tag bar code label that technicians assign and affix to every medical equipment as a central means for establishing an equipment device record in the clinical engineering inventory system. An ECN is a control measure that allows managers and technicians the ability to monitor and track track medical equipment using a computerized medical equipment management system database for equipment identification and hazard recall alert searches.
